My OHs Birthday Cards

It is my OHs birthday tomorrow so I have had to come up with 2 cards, one from me and one from the kids. Since I am paying for us to go on a ghost hunt in August for his birthday to the Tower of Terrors at Alton Towers, I figured the card had to be on a 'haunted' theme, so have come up with this card, which I hope he likes.

I desparately tried to find a spooky picture of the Alton Towers, but there weren't any on the internet, so I went with this one instead, as it looks quite spooky to me. All I have done with this card is print out my own backing paper which says a load of words associated with ghosts; haunted houses etc - thought I would struggle with finding enough words to be honest, but managed to come up with over 40, so I typed them out in a creepy looking font, and then just copied and pasted them to fill a page. I've matted the words onto silver mirror card and black card, and added the spooky house into a frame, that I thought looked quite old and destressed. I received the frame with some other bits and pieces as a prize from The Wife on MSE. The sentiment is from craftworkcards.

This second card is one from the kids, and my instructions from my eldest son, was it had to be something to do with a dairy milk chocolate bar, which is my OHs favourite chocolate bar. So I came up with this, another 3d card, that is supposed to look like a bar of dairy milk, and if I do say so myself I think I have achieved it!

I have made this card in the same way as the 3d gadget cards and just found a picture from the internet, printed it out in the size I wanted. Made some copies of the parts that I wanted to decoupage - cadburys, milk glasses, chocolate cube, and cut them all out and layered them with 3d foam pads on the top of the main picture. To make it look a little more realistic I have used pinking shears to cut the edges of the main image, and used the scoreboard to score the edges of the bar to lift the wrapper edges up to give it a bit more dimension.

Then I have matted it onto some silver mirror card and dark purple card. Again the sentiment is from craftwork cards. The kids wanted to put a real bar on the card too, so the final card that they will give him tomorrow will look like this, and once he takes the real bar off it will reveal the sentiment:

A vase of flowers

The lovely Margaret over on MSE made a fab get well card for a mutual friend and I fell in love with it. She has very kindly shared the image with me which she has coloured in using paintshop pro on the computer. I have spent all afternoon creating these two cards that are very different styles, but use exactly the same items.

First of all I have made this easel card that I would like to enter into the current Creative Craft World Challenge to make an easel card for any occassion. I have made a 4" x 4" card using some deep red card, to which I have matted silver mirror card and the red paper from the 'My Mind's Eye Spring Paper Pack. I have cut the image with an oval nestability, and backed it onto the same deep red card using a scalloped oval nestability.

To hold the card up I have used a Craftwork 'Happy Birthday' oval sentiment which has been put in the middle of red, silver and mind's eye paper.

To finish the card off I have added 3 punched flowers at the bottom of the base and put a silver card candy on the middle of each flower. Really pleased with how this card has turned out.

This second card, is my first ever gatefold card, and one that I found whilst searching on Youtube the other day. Now that I have mastered my MS Scoreboard I was able to score the lines on this card. The card and papers used are exactly the same as the ones in the above card, with the addition of a piece of red ribbon on the right hand side. This card was relatively easy to make, and the longest part was cutting out the rectangles to matt. I have also matted panels on the inside and when I send the card to someone, will use some cream pearlescent paper to write the greeting out. Again, I am really happy with the way this card has turned out. I'd like to enter this card into the DareU2 current challenge - anything goes.

A Get Well Card for Rusty

Rusty over on MSE has been taken into hospital, so the lovely Sarah has set a challenge to cheer Tams up, by sending her a get well card.

I have just made this for her and will be posting it first thing tomorrow.

I have used a cream square card, and matted onto it some gold glitter film, and a square of cream linen effect card. The flowers were cut with a woodware punch, and the letters on the craft robo. I have added 3d foam pads to the letters to give it a bit of dimension.

A blog update

Although I have neglected my blog for a couple of weeks, I have been busy making cards, and these are some of my recent makes.


This card was made for one of my sons friends, who is a big Crystal Palace fan.

I have 'Wordled' the names of the teams football players, and included his surname as well to make it more personal.


Charlie loved it, and even rang me a couple of days later just to say how cool he thought it was. Hearing this made my day.

I'd like to enter this into this weeks 'Oh Boy' challenge over on the Quixotic Challenge Blog.


This one was for Marg over on MSE, and very quickly put together. The image is one that I have on the computer, and coloured in with Paintshop Pro and I have matted it onto some bright pink glitter card.


The ribbon across the middle is the same colour as the pink card, and the bottom of the card has been run through the cuttlebug with the swiss dots folder.


The sentiment was from Craftworks Cards, and I have added a couple of punched flowers to either side of it, and finished it off with a pearl in the middle of each flower.


I made a couple of these from a template on the
Craft Robo, and although it is a bit fiddly to cut out all the different coloured card, and stick it all together, the effect you get I think is really good.

I made one for my uncle, and another to add to the ones that I am making up for a car boot sale - should have done some last weekend, but with the weather being so naff, I didn't bother, and will wait for the better weather again, and it will also allow me to make some more cards I have to take.

I'm hoping to have about 30 done, and at £1.00 a card if they all sell, that will be some more money for some card making stash!





This is the card that my oldest son Harry made for his brother and the beginning of last month.

He did almost all of it himself, with a little help from me cutting the matted card he used.

He chose the cars he wanted from the internet, merged them into one picture, that was printed on photo paper.

He used the cuttlebug to cut the oval, and added the peel off stickers. Jack loved it.




My friends husbands dad died a few weeks ago, so I made this card for him.





I swiss dotted the gold and cream card, and just matted it all together. Something was missing on the lefthand side, so I just added a length of gold stretchy cord to finish it off

Challenge entry

Just had 1/2 an hour to put together another butterfly card. Trying out new designs so that I can see what is easiest to make for when I try to sell some of my cards at the car boot sales I want to do this year.

Another card that falls into Marg's challenge on MSE; and the Crafty Place Challenge, but I would also like to enter this weeks Flutter By Wednedays and One Stop Craft challenges too.

Butterfly was cut on the robo, but this time I used the glitter film as the cut out butterfly and layered a plain one under neath to give it a bit of sparkle. Then I just layered up some squares in different colours and silver glitter film. The squares were cut with my nesties.

I then scored 2 lines, added a green spotty ribbon from my stash in between the lines and 'swiss dotted' the bottom of the card. Really really like this one, and as my swap partner for this months card swap on Crafty Place Crafty JuJu, will be getting both cards that fit the challenge. What a lucky lady! Hope she likes them.

Another Happy Birthday Butterfly Card

I had to make a quick birthday card last week so did another butterfly one.

These really are quick and easy cards to make, but wanted to try and add another dimension to the butterfly, as sometimes, although pretty, they can look a bit plain.

Using the craftrobo I have cut out a plain butterfly, the same shape as the 3d one, using some glitter film I have and stuck it onto the card before adding the 3d butterfly to give the card a bit of sparkle.

Just been playing with my stash and have managed to make a card for 3 challenges - Sketch and Stash; Marg's 'Wings' Challenge over on MSE; and the card swap challenge on Crafty Place, that was to use the colours of green and purple.


I've used a blank white card and layered some mint green card that was put through the cuttlebug with the 'daisy' embossing folder onto it. I have then layered some purple card with basic grey 'sultry' paper for the rectangle; strip and circle and stuck them on as per the sketch. For the butterfly - cut on the craft robo - I have added some gold glitter film to the back on it, to give it a bit of sparkle, and added 3 gems to the scalloped circle. Using such a bold design of paper is totally out of my comfort zone, but am pleased with the result.

PS3 Controller Gadget Card

One on my neighbours sons was 18 yesterday, so I have made another 'gadget' card for him. This one is made exactly the same as all the others, and this one looked really real.

Have to say out of all the cards like this I have done, I don't like cutting out in black as it shows up all your mistakes! Still it came out alright in the end, and I hope he liked it.

Where has this month gone...

Haven't blogged for a while but have been making a few cards. I guess with the kids being off school you loose track of days, having to keep them entertained.

Our few days away at Alton Towers was great and the weather perfect. When we got back home my niece had arrived from Greece to come and take her driving test, which had been cancelled back in January due to the snow. We were really pleased that she passed first time, so because she has now got a smart car to drive out in Greece I made this card for her and she loved it, particularly the number plate and the fact it is the same colour as her one.

The car was printed onto photo paper and then cut out on the craft robo. I made the backing 'congratulations' paper on the PC, and printed out the 'You Passed' on the craft robo to.

Plain and simple card, but it think it really works.

Another boys 3d birthday card

My youngest son is 7 on Saturday, so here is another 3d 'gadget' card i've made him. I've chosen to do this as he will be getting a silver PSP for his birthday.

As usual, I found the image on the internet, printed it out twice, cut around one to make the base and then painstakingly cut out each of the buttons individually and stuck them over the top of the base image with 3d pads. As most PSPs are shiny I have, this time, printed out the images on glossy photo paper, which has proved a nightmare for fingerprints! I printed the sentiment on the PC and just glued it straight onto the black screen.

I think it is really cool, and almost as good as the xbox controller one I did for a friends son a few weeks ago. Jack is sure to love it.
